Tandridge Youth Football League Message: Issued by the Football Association Thursday 26th March 2020. Conclusion of 19/20 season – “The FA has decided that all grassroots football is concluded for the 2019/20 season”. “We would ask that leagues consider expunging results in line with the National League System and women’s pyramid to support consistency across the game”. “There should be greater flexibility around cup competitions…” Accordingly, the TYL Management Committee have been actively considering the options for our league & cup competitions and show below (on the League Profile page) the difficult decision we have reached.

We thought that the members of the Tandridge League must have seen ‘everything’ over the 45 years of our history. But we were wrong. The current situation is both unprecedented and extraordinary. And it follows that extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures.

As you know, the Football Association have announced that all grassroots football has been terminated for the season and they went on to make recommendations as to how Leagues should implement that immediate termination.

The League Management Committee have met by video conference and have debated the limited options that exist (all of them unthinkable in normal times and unpalatable now). Having carefully considered the FA advice, we must now, with regret, make the following announcement to our member clubs.

The Tandridge Youth League Management Committee has agreed to follow the recommendation made to us by The FA and adopt the measure that they have applied to the National League System and to the women’s pyramid. Accordingly all league results for all divisions and groups will be expunged and no champions and runners up positions will be determined. To avoid any doubt, this applies to all Divisions and to all the Spring Trophy Event Groups. This will not prevent any teams requesting a higher or lower division for next season in accordance with previous League practice.

As the current national emergency continues into the summer months, such an outcome may increasingly be seen as inevitable, but we fully appreciate that this decision will nevertheless be the cause of great disappointment, especially to those with title hopes. But we trust that such disappointment will be weighed against the suffering being caused across the country by this vicious epidemic.

The FA also suggested that there could be some flexibility with regard to knock out cup competitions, especially if the finalists are already known and are simply waiting for their final. Accordingly it is the current intention of the Committee to keep open the option of attempting to hold the delayed Cup Finals in the early part of next season. In expressing this wish, it is recognised that many unknown factors may arise to hinder this aspiration and it will be kept under review as future timescales become clearer.

As attention inevitably turns towards the future, we conclude this announcement by drawing your attention to the following information.

* Sport England Community Emergency Fund: may be of interest to clubs with fixed costs which are no longer supported with revenue as a result of coronavirus.

* Leading providers of insurance (such as Sportsguard and Bluefin) are considering the effects of Coronavirus and are indicating that it may be appropriate for them to offer pro-rata refunds, by way of discount at renewal.

* The Tandridge League are reviewing certain financial implications and intend to bring forward proposals to offer discounted membership fees for next season (we appreciate that league fees are a minor part of your annual expenditure, but we believe that anything we can do in this regard will be welcomed).

* Having acknowledged the uncertainty that currently exists for all of us in our daily lives, let alone in the lives of our clubs and teams, we do nevertheless intend to try to follow the ‘normal’ timetable as regards membership and other procedures for next season. That means we will be issuing our usual membership renewal information later this month. However, we obviously accept that some of the usual deadlines may need adjustment subject to the prevailing conditions nearer the time.

Finally, all members of the Committee would like to send everyone in your Club, our sincere best wishes for the weeks and months ahead as we all face the threats associated with this wretched virus.
