Winwick Athletic Profile

Winwick Athletic Logo

Winwick Athletic FC  was formed in 1996 and was awarded FA Charter Standard Development Club status in December 2006 in our 10th anniversary year. The Club was then immensely honoured to be recognised as "Lancashire County FA Charter Standard Development Club of the Year for 2007" and then also the "FA North West Regional Charter Standard Development Club of the Year for 2007".

We currently have more than 35 qualified Coaches (minimum FA Level 1) working with 16 teams in age groups from U7 to U16 for the 2008-2009 season with 210 players registered for junior league football (88 involved in nine mini-soccer teams and 122 players in seven 11-a-side teams). The Club also has a vibrant U9 Girls squad. Local girls interested in coming along to join us will find a warm welcome here at Winwick. We are looking at forming an U9, U11 and U13 Girls Team and linking with other Charter Standard Clubs in the Warrington area to form a local League for them to play matches.

In June 2008 we are delighted to announce that Aaron Jones  has been awarded the Lancashire County FA Charter Standard Coach of the Year 2008.  We are also honoured to have both Aaron Jones  and Paul McMahon  receiving two of only six County Awards issued by Lancashire County FA under the Football Workforce Awards  Scheme 2007/2008. Under the same scheme we also have special recognition certificates awarded to Brian Plumbley  for his services to our Nursery Academy and also to Daniel Pavier  for his services as a Young Coach (<18years). We are also proud to announce that Paul McMahon  has gone on to win a National Football Workforce Award,  and will be presented with that award at the Community Shield on 10th August 2008 by Sir Trevor Brooking and Geoff Hurst.

Winwick's 50- to 60-strong 'Nursery Academy' section for non-league registered players aged U6 is thriving. This allows very young children to come along to organised training sessions prior to those players becoming part of the Club's U7 teams. We now have two teams joining Friendly Leagues operated by the Warrington Junior League every year now.

Our Club colours are Red and White and we play most of our games at Myddleton Lane Recreation Ground (beside Winwick Leisure Centre). Some of our younger players use "Hollins Park Country Club" and we have recently linked-up with Cinnamon Brow CE Primary School to play some of our younger age group matches there too.

Winwick Athletic FC is affiliated to Lancashire County FA and is proud to belong to both that County, who should be acknowledged as offering superb support to our Club and all of our Volunteers, and also to the Warrington Junior Football League who do a superb of organising the league for the benefit of all of our players.
