Widnes FC Profile

Widnes FC were formed in February 2003 as The Dragons AFC, later to be known as Widnes Dragons. The Club developed a fantastic reputation locally for their contribution towards the development of grassroots football in Halton and for providing opportunities to play football for over 200 players from the age of 6 to open age.

In March 2012 Widnes Dragons started a consultation process with Widnes Vikings RLFC to become part of the Vikings Sports brand, a partnership that would enhance the clubs community status. A First Team was established as Widnes Football Club with the goal of being granted entry into the North West Counties Football League.

Steve Hill was appointed First Team manager in September 2012, and steered the Club to a 4th placed finish in its inaugural and so far only season in the West Cheshire League Third Division. During this season, the Club also submitted its application to join the North West Counties Football League for the 2013/14 season. The 2014/15 season saw the Club make significant progress in cup competitions and also oversaw the Club’s first foray in the FA Vase.

Former Burscough, Warrington Town and Runcorn Linnets manager Joey Dunn was appointed as First Team Manager in season 2016/17 and the season ended on a highly successful note as Widnes Football Club were crowned Hallmark Security League First Division Champions, securing promotion to the Premier Division in the process.

Widnes Football Club are proud to announce the formation of a junior section for the upcoming 2017/18 season. This exciting development will provide young players with the chance to improve their game while creating a pathway from the youngest age groups through to youth football and semi-professional levels.

Coaching will be aimed at developing the technical ability of all our players whilst still allowing them to enjoy their football. Training is full, varied and above all enjoyable.

We are now recruiting young footballers for the 2017/18 season at Under 7 level (born between 1st September 2010 and 31st August 2011) and Under 9 level (born between 1st September 2008 and 31st August 2009).

If you are interested in joining one of the fastest growing clubs in the area and developing along with the Senior First Team please visit the website for more details.
